Listen: Local Natives, “Fountain of Youth”

Cali-based indie rock quintet Local Natives brought us an optimistic hit perfect for the summer yesterday. “Fountain of Youth” is the first release from their upcoming album, Sunlit Youth.

The sound of the single isn’t much different from their earlier album, but it is definitely happier. The song seems to represent a turning point into better days for the band.

We love what they had to say about the song on their Facebook:

“Early on while we were working on the record, this song became something of a rallying cry for us, a call to keep us accountable to following our true inspirations and desires. In a time of cynicism dressed as realism, when it feels like the world might be falling apart around us, I believe there is reason to be hopeful, optimistic, and idealistic. Socially, Politically, and personally we’ve felt many defeats, but have come back to the realization that this is our world to make. Consider the many victories, small and large that have been going on around us these last couple of years. There’s a lot left to do, but we should feel hopeful that we are the ones who can do it, and we can do whatever we want.”

“Fountain of Youth” is a song you have to add to your summer playlist right now. It’s perfect to blast on your way to the beach with the windows down.

Pre-order Sunlit Youth here, set to release on Sept. 9. See what they’ve got planned for their worldwide tour here.
